I began the blog in 2006 to document my doctoral research process. Since then, it has evolved into an ongoing conversation about the evolution of books in a digital age.
Semiotic analysis makes me unhappy. I think it offers limited image analysis, and focuses on pinning down the 'meaning' of an image, which is entirely against the point of including graphic devices in fiction. I'm starting to look at either hermeneutics (Gadamer/Heidegger) or structuralism as alternatives to semiotics. I can't say anything intelligent about any of it yet, which is why the post-it note speaks for me.
If you found an alternative to semiotics, please report them to me. Semiotics haunt my nights and make me throw away any book they're written in. Thanks :)
